Informations de la recherche : The water level controlling structures in dams are equipped with a channel excavated in the rock; these channels are referred to as unlined spillways. Generally, the rock mass of these spillways is assumed to be resistant to the erosive force of flowing water. However, the actual use of the spillways indicates that the initial rock resistance to erosive force of flowing water may be evaluated incorrectly. The key geomechanical parameters that affect erodability are still not precisely investigated. The objective of this study is to specifically determine the effect of rock block volume on the erodability of unlined dam spillways with three-dimensional numerical modeling.
